Electronic score cues sit beside the jazz-inflected pop of “Devil Eyes” on the soundtrack to THE MASTERPIECE. The contrast fits a film that moves between horror and black comedy. JASMINE’s vocal and Nomal’s acoustic guitar give the song a different scale from the surrounding score. “Devil Eyes” later found another screen life in Salmokji in 2026.

loose leaves
“devil eyes” was surprisingly simple to put together
acoustic guitar and lead vocals and my background vocals
all through the same recording chain
an omnidirectional microphone and a reverb pedal
i did very little editing or mixing
even jasmine thought the background voice was hers
it was me
elsewhere the score goes much further
the trailer cue starts in the countryside and ends in electronic dance music
the second track is the strangest one
if this is your first track of mine please try another too
i pitched “devil eyes” to spotify
it reached editorial playlists
a million streams sooner than i’d expected
i knew how to release a record
now i start with why before deciding how
years later it found another life in salmokji
On Screen
I worked on “Devil Eyes” with JASMINE. It closes THE MASTERPIECE and appears in the opening, a car scene and the end credits of Salmokji.
Salmokji became South Korea’s most-watched traditional horror film.
