The Workbench

Studio Tools

A pocket lab for timing, tuning, and other perfectly normal obsessions.

Session settings

Saved on this device

23.976, 29.97, and 59.94 use exact /1001 rates.

Changing tasks keeps your entries. Unit changes convert the current quantity. Unrelated unit families remember their own values. Starting points and Reset replace settings. Unit changes need valid values within the destination range.

A starting point replaces the current settings. Save your setup first if you want to keep it.

Your setups

Tempo & note length

Delay times, modulation, metronome practice, and score duration.

120 BPM

Tap at least three times. A pause over four seconds starts again.

The tap button also works with Enter or Space when focused.

Milliseconds
250 ms
Nearest whole sample
12,000
Cycle rate
4 Hz
Method & limits

BPM counts quarter notes. Sample counts are rounded to the nearest whole sample.

Pitch & transposition

Frequencies, tuning ratios, chord compatibility, and written versus concert pitch.

Shifted frequency
440 Hz
Frequency ratio
1×
Method & limits

12-tone equal temperament. Positive cents are sharp. This calculates a ratio. It doesn’t analyze or retune audio.

Samples & time

Move between an edit offset and its duration.

Milliseconds
10 ms
Rounded duration

Rounding error · µs

Method & limits

Time is per channel. This is sample-count math, not a sample-rate converter or a measurement of system latency.

Levels & decibels

Plan a gain change, convert levels, or check integer PCM precision.

Linear gain change
5 dB
Headroom to 0 dBFS
6 dB
Crest factor
12 dB
RMS after gain
-13 dBFS
Method & limits

Uses measurements you supply. RMS must use full-scale amplitude as its reference, without AES17 sine calibration (+3.01 dB). A gain change preserves crest factor and does not compress. Sample peak is not true peak. This does not measure LUFS or guarantee an encoded file will not clip.

Compression model

Compare a static curve and a target reduction. Check timing against the beat.

Modeled output
-15 dBFS
Modeled reduction
9 dB
Threshold for target
-14 dBFS
Method & limits

Hard-knee, steady-state model without makeup gain. Attack/release values are note-length references, not recommended settings. Detector type, envelope, knee, and program behavior are deliberately outside this model.

Attack reference / Release reference

Attack reference: 31.25 ms · Release reference: 250 ms

Signal bench

Check pan-law sums, a phase model, or a first-order RC circuit.

Gain per channel
0.707107
Combined power vs one hard side
0 dB
L + R sum vs one hard side
3.01 dB
Method & limits

Identical mono signal routed to both channels. L + R is unnormalized. This is a center-only check, not a complete panner curve or a prediction of perceived loudness.

Frames & timecode

Timecode, shutter exposure, and frame-rate conform math.

Non-drop-frame
00:01:00:00
Frame count
1,440
Elapsed seconds
60
One frame · ms
41.666667
Method & limits

Exact /1001 frame rates. DF skips labels, not picture frames. Source offset is zero. There is no automatic 24-hour rollover. This is duration math, not a time-of-day clock. Changing frame rate keeps the frame count and updates the label. Elapsed time changes. Switching input format or DF/NDF keeps the same frame count.

Picture & print

Canvas sizes, crops, print PPI, and screen density.

Only canvas dimensions change. These are aspect-ratio starting points for video, social posts, and tablet layouts. They do not specify device screens or guarantee platform safe areas. Interface overlays and crops vary by placement.

Scaled image · px
1,920 × 1,080
Scale
50%
Padding · Left / right · px each
0
Padding · Top / bottom · px each
0
Method & limits

Square pixels and a centered image. Dimensions are rounded for display. Cropping or padding is measured on the output canvas. No image file is changed.

Quick conversions

Lengths, durations, and storage units without leaving the session.

Converted value
3.280839895 ft
Method & limits

Exact defined unit factors. Storage distinguishes decimal kB/MB/GB from binary KiB/MiB/GiB. No exchange rates or live data.

Delivery size

Estimate the payload before a render or transfer.

Estimated payload
51.84 MB
Binary size
49.438 MiB
Total bitrate
2.304 Mb/s
Method & limits

Payload only. Container, metadata, and filesystem overhead are excluded. Encoded size assumes the entered average bitrates. MB uses 1,000,000 bytes and MiB uses 1,048,576.

Calculations and image processing stay in your browser. No uploads or accounts. Only the metronome plays sound, after you press Start. Settings are remembered on this device. Files are not.

The numbers handle the arithmetic. You still make the record.
